Luhut Says One Omicron Patient Passed Quarantine At Athletes House, Government Will Conduct Surveillance

One Covid-19 patient who contracted the Omicron variant escaped the supervision of the Wisma Atlet RSDC.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that the patient’s escape was due to the patient getting dispensation for family reasons.

In fact, when quarantined at Wisma Atlet, Luhut said that the cases of the Omicron variant looked stable and there were no additions.

“So we see that once we put all the lockdowns at the Athlete’s House it doesn’t seem to be growing (the Omicron Covid-19 case).”

“But we still don’t know if anyone from other areas came in, who escaped this.”

“Because yesterday there was one person who escaped from there (Wisma Atlet) and went with his family,” Luhut said in a virtual press conference, Monday (12/27/2021).

However, Luhut did not mention in detail the identity of the patient in question.

Luhut only emphasized that his party did not want a similar incident to happen again.

In the future, the granting of quarantine dispensation will be tightened.

So that no one has escaped the quarantine, especially patients with confirmed Omicron variants.

“And we hope this doesn’t happen again, so there are no requests for dispensation without good reason.”

“Dispensation can be given with strong reasons, such as doctors, health, and other urgent matters, but there are procedures that must be followed as well,” said Luhut.

The government, said Luhut, will continue to increase supervision in the quarantine process for international travelers.

For information, currently the quarantine duration remains 10-14 days to prevent the entry of the Omicron variant.

The government will also strengthen testing and tracing in Indonesia.

“We urge you to do testing because there are many OTG (people without symptoms) Omicron from the 46 cases above,” said Luhut.
