Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI Ahmad Sahroni appreciated the decision of the Tanjungbalai District Court Panel of Judges to sentence three former police officers to death on Thursday (10/2).
The three former police officers are named Agung Sugiarto, Wariyono, and Tuharno respectively.
The former Tanjungbalai police officer was found guilty of selling some of the 76 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine caught.
Sahroni said such severe punishment was needed to have a deterrent effect on drug dealers.
What’s more, the three defendants committed this act when they were still members of the National Police.
“Of course this is a very brave and necessary decision, considering the many crimes committed by the perpetrators,” said Sahroni in Jakarta, Friday (11/2).
He said the defendants were law enforcers who should have taken part in eradicating these illicit goods.
In addition, drug trafficking should not be tolerated, so the penalties for traffickers must also be severe.
“Moreover, if the dealer is a law enforcer,” said the Nasdem politician.
The man from Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta emphasized that the crimes of the perpetrators were increasingly not tolerated because they were police officers.
“Therefore I strongly support the judge’s verdict to sentence the perpetrators to death, so that it can also be a lesson for other officers,” said Ahmad Sahroni.
