Government Sets 1 Ramadan to Fall on April 3, 2022

The government has determined that 1 Ramadan 1443 Hijri, which marks the beginning of fasting, falls on Sunday, April 3, 2022

The determination of 1 Ramadan 1443 Hijri is the result of an isbat session conducted by the Ministry of Religion together with a number of Islamic community organizations on Friday (1/4/2022) afternoon.

The isbat meeting was chaired by the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

“By consensus, 1 Ramadan will fall on Sunday, April 3, 2022. This is the result of an isbat meeting that was mutually agreed upon,” said Yaqut.

The Ministry of Religion explained that the ISBAT session considered the initial information based on the results of astronomical calculations (reckoning) and the results of field confirmation through the hilal monitoring mechanism (rukyatul).

This isbat session involved participants from various institutions, such as the Unification Team for the Hijri Calendar of the Ministry of Religion, ambassadors from friendly countries, and representatives of Islamic organizations.

In addition, this trial also involved representatives of the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and so on. This session will also invite the leaders of the MUI and Commission VIII of the DPR RI.

The isbat assembly to determine the start of the 2022 Ramadan fast is carried out in three stages.

The first stage of the isbat trial, namely the exposure of the position of the hilal at the beginning of Ramadan 1443 Hijri based on the results of reckoning (astronomical calculations).

Then, the second stage of the isbat trial was the rukyatul hilal (confirmation of the hilal position) conducted by the Ministry of Religion Team at 78 locations throughout Indonesia.

This stage is carried out behind closed doors and is carried out after the Maghrib prayer.

The final stage of the isbat trial is the presentation of the results of the isbat trial which is held openly.
